About Us

Avalon Hospedaje was set up by Anya Delahaye in 2008 after she had fallen in love with this ancient building and bought it in 1998. It took a couple of years to renovate the ruined house to the present standard. During this process Anya always tried to respect the old local building tradition and to restore the house as it should be. The main part of the building and the load-bearing walls were built from rammed earth more than 80 years ago. This construction method is ecologically compatible and ensures a perfect indoor climate. The half a meter thick clay walls keep the room temperature cool when it's hot outside and vice versa.

An old ruin becomes an attractive townhouse

The beginning was difficult. Except for the walls, almost nothing was good about the house. The roof was broken, the floors had large holes, all installations had to be made first as the house used to have neither water nor electricity.

But with the help of family, friends and neighbours after a couple of years the bulding was habitable again.
